Fall Paves the Path for NCTTA 2003-04 Season

By Tzu-Wei Lin, Public Relations Director, NCTTA

A group of young table tennis players experienced some magical growth spurts over the summer!

To be more accurate, the National Collegiate Table Tennis Association (NCTTA) has expanded tremendously since the end of its ’02-’03 season, when the University of Illinois won its second consecutive national title. During the summer, NCTTA has achieved three main objectives: 1) expanded the league by 18 schools and 6 divisions, 2) filed for the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization status, and 3) conducted an open National Championships bidding process.

Immediately following the successful conclusion of its 2003 Championships, NCTTA began an earnest search for the next site.  The officers opened the bid on its web site with four schools submitting completed applications.  When all sixteen NCTTA officers voted, Stanford University received the most votes by a close margin.  The 2004 Championships will take place at the nearby City Beach facility, run by the always-enthusiastic Dennis Davis.  This will mark the first time that the Championship is held on the West Coast.

The NCTTA officers also concentrated on applying for the 501(c)(3) nonprofit status with INS and prepared its first ever Prospectus (available on its web site).  To add icing on the cake, NCTTA is welcoming 18 new schools and 6 provisional divisions.  New divisions in Ontario, Michigan, Mississippi, South Florida, Texas and Southern California are prepared to challenge the more established schools!  This growth spurt has increased NCTTA membership to 83 schools and 20 regional divisions.

As fall semester ignites its engine, NCTTA announces the start of another exciting year. As always, NCTTA is looking for more sponsors, personal donations and schools interested in joining. Please contact Tzu-Wei Lin at publicrelations@nctta.org with any questions you have.  The forum on our web site, www.nctta.org, also acts as an online community where ideas are exchanged, whether they are from college students, coaches focusing on junior development, or even parents and prospective college applicants.  Please do not hesitate and offer your valuable thoughts and feedback.
