Letter from U.S. Open Director Jim Wilson

As Tournament Director of the 2002 U.S. Open, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the 2002 US Open in wonderful Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This location has so much to offer to table tennis fans and their families.

Our tournament this year takes on a special significance as we gather, once again, from so many nations after the horrific events of 9/11 here in the United States. I pray that the camaraderie, sportsmanship, and acceptance so readily found in the table tennis community will take on new meaning for each and every one of you as we continue to model peace around the world through our sport.

This year, we are offering 78 events on 84 tables. As always, we trust you will remember the first rule in our reason for being here – HAVE FUN!

During your stay here, be sure to visit the table tennis merchandisers at the entrance to the facilities. Also, you will want to take some time to enjoy the many popular attractions in the Fort Lauderdale area. From beaches, to shopping and dining, to golf and more, there is plenty to do within 10 minutes of the convention center.

Without the players, sponsors, spectators, volunteers, and staff, this event would not be possible, and I offer thanks to them all. There are too many names to list here of those who go above and beyond the call of duty to plan, prepare and support this tournament.
