2003 NORTH AMERICAN TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Balboa Park Activity Center, San Diego, California, USA, April 4-6, 2003

GENERAL INFORMATION: The Championships will be held April 4-6, 2003 at Balboa Park Activity Center, 2145 Inspiration Point Way, San Diego, California. All entries must include: participant's name, birth date, address, fees paid in full (payable to USATT), the signature of participant or participant's parent or guardian and a signed Release & Waiver of Liability form. The tournament will be conducted in accordance with the rules and regulations of the ITTF. 

ELIGIBILITY: All competitors must be eligible to represent BER, CAN or USA.  

EVENT RESTRICTION: Due to the format and scheduling, players entering cadet events will be able to enter the junior events but NOT the senior (men/women) events. Juniors may enter junior and senior (men/women) events

Men's/Women's Singles $ 20.00
Men's/Women's Doubles $ 25.00/pair
Junior Singles (B/G) $ 15.00
Junior Doubles (B/G) $ 20.00/pair
Cadet Singles (B/G) $ 15.00
Cadet Doubles (B/G) $ 20.00/pair
Junior Team Event (B/G)-one team/country/gender $ 20.00/team

FORMAT

  1. Singles events will be played in a Qualification stage and Championship stage
  2. The format for the Qualification stage will be determined when all the entries have been received
  3. The Championship stage will start with 2 round robin groups of 4 players. The top 3 U.S. players and the top 3 Canadian players will be seeded into the two round-robin groups. There will be one qualifier spot in each group for a total of 2 qualifiers. Group winners and runner-ups will advance to the semifinals (cross over match).
  4. Matches in the Championship Stage of the Men & Women's Single events and the Junior Singles events (Girls & Boys) will be best of 7 games. All other matches will be best of 5 games.
  5. All doubles events will be single elimination, best of 5 games.
  6. Team event: the match format will be the same format as for the World Junior TT Championships - 3 players/team - best of 5 matches (5 singles) The order of play will be A v X, B v Y, C v Z, A v Y, B v X. Each country is allowed to enter one team/gender

DRAW

  1. The draw will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 and will be distributed to the involved countries.
  2. The latest rating list available shall be used to determinate the seeding order for all events (USA, Canada)
  3. The seeding of doubles shall be based upon the combined rating points of both players.

MEETINGS  

  1. The Jury Meeting will be held on Friday, April 4, 2003 at 9:00 PM at the Holiday Inn hotel and will be chaired by the Referee. Each National Association with participating athletes is entitled to two (2) representatives.
  2. The Officials Meeting will be held on Friday, April 4, 2003 after the Jury Meeting at the Holiday Inn hotel.

ACCOMMODATIONS

The Official tournament hotel is: Holiday Inn, 3737 Sports Arena Blvd., San Diego, CA 92110. For reservation call 1-800-441-5168 or 619-881-6112 and ask for North American Championship rate in order to receive a special group rate. The room rates are: Run of House- $89; Standard 2 Queens- $109 (taxes not included). Full American breakfast buffet is included. In order to receive these rates, you must make your reservation not later than March 25, 2003. The hotel will provide transportation from and to the airport. Reservation must be made in advance by calling 1-800-900-RIDE. You will need to tell them that you are with "USA Table Tennis" then they will know to bill the hotel.

SHUTTLE BUS

Shuttle bus will be provided for athletes and officials using the official tournament hotel. The shuttle bus schedule will be available upon arrival.

GENERAL SCHEDULE

  1. Friday, April 4, 2003, starting at 6 PM: Junior Girls and Boys Team Events.
  2. Saturday and Sunday, April 5-6, 2003 starting 9:00 AM each day: all other events. The tournament will end on Sunday, April 6, around 5:00 PM
