
Swaythling Club International Sportsmanship Award
Founded in 1967 by
Victor Barna to honor champions & officials who represented their country at a
World Championships, Jimmy McClure and George Schein were the first two members
from the United States to be inducted into the ITTF Swaythling Club
International in 1969*
In 2005, Dr. Michael J. Scott, Jr., of Seattle, WA, founder of the Scott Award
for Excellence in Umpiring, obtained the cooperation of Diane Scholer, President
of the Swaythling Club International, to present an annual Swaythling Club
International Sportsmanship Award to a player in the U.S. National
Championships.
A three member Selection Committee composed of the Chairs of the USATT
Officials’ Committee (currently Wendell Dillon), the USATT Officials’ Selection
Sub Committee (currently Azmy Ibrahim), and a revolving Player Representative
(Dick Hicks this year) will select the first recipient of this award.
Presenting the award at the U.S. National Championships in Las Vegas will be Tim
Boggan, USATT Historian and author of the multi-volume HISTORY OF U.S. TABLE
TENNIS.
