FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
U.S. Paralympics Table Tennis Championships to be held at Mayor Daley’s Holiday Sports Festival in December 2007
Chicago, IL – June 20, 2007 – International excitement is building for the 2007 U.S. Paralympics Table Tennis Championships to be held December 27-31 in Chicago, Illinois. As the 3rd straight year that an international table tennis competition for disabled athletes will be held in the United States, the Organizing Committee looks to build upon the success of the 2005 and 2006 events, both held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“The feedback from participants in last year’s event was just tremendously positive,” notes Jennifer Johnson a member of the 2007 Organizing Committee and herself a Paralympic table tennis gold medalist. “We’re excited by the change of venue [to McCormick Place in Chicago] and we’re working to make the 2007 competition even better than 2006.”
More than 100 disabled table tennis athletes from around the world are expected to compete, included among them several Paralympians and Paralympic medalists. A showcase for diversity and inclusion, the U.S. Paralympics Table Tennis Championships will be a welcome addition to the Killerspin Holiday Open, an annual, USA table tennis-sanctioned competition, itself a part of Mayor Daley’s Holiday Sports Festival. Held each December, the Festival features more than 40 different sports and activities and an expected attendance of 85,000 people over its 3 day run.
