How did you get started in table tennis, and how long have you played?
I began playing in Vietnam in 1975 a few months before coming over to the U.S. My Dad taught me how to play. I developed my game in the U.S. I have been playing more than 20 years.
Who do you practice with? How often?
I have quite a few practice partners: Michelle, Jackie, Auria, Duc, Thinh and Roger. It also depends on who is available to practice on any given day. Everyone has their own set schedules; it’s difficult to find someone to practice on my schedule.
The next few months of training is focused on peaking at the Olympic Games. My day begins at 5:45am. I go to the gym before the first morning practice. I work on weights three times a week and running two times a week. The second session begins in the afternoon. I try to play at least nine sessions a week.
Describe your style of play.
I try to work on an all-around game. But my strengths are taking the offense as early as possible.
