Club
of the Month: Cary Table Tennis AssociationBy Mike Babuin of the Cary TTA
Cary, NC is fortunate to have two large clubs in town, the Cary Area TTC run by Jim McQueen (of Boos Brothers fame), and the Cary TTA administered by Mike Babuin. Cary TTA was conceived in 2001 by founder Mike Babuin (this writer) as a non-profit corporation designed to create a mechanism to appropriate funding for select table tennis activities. As part of that, Cary TTA has a large group of participants (over 40 consistently) that play on a weekly basis (Mondays) at the Cary Senior Center – a relatively new facility located in Fred Bond Metro Park.
With eight tables and 30+ barriers arranged in the “Grand Ballroom,” conditions are generally very good – good floors, high ceilings, good lights and a dual central air conditioning system, although the size of the room (about half the size of a gymnasium) now pushes the limits of tolerance based on the overwhelming (and ever increasing) response to table tennis in the area.
