When Good Seniors Get Great: Rich DeWitt, John Wetzler and Richard McAfee

When you hit the big “Four-Oh,” it’s time to retire, and sit back and reflect on past athletic glory, right? Time to take up shuffleboard? Well . . . David Zhuang just won his fifth men’s singles title at the Nationals at age 43, and Cheng Yinghua made the semifinals at age 48, after winning it at age 46 in 2004.

Of course, these two were great players long before they became seniors. How about if you hit the big “Four-Oh,” and you’re a good senior, but not great?

Here are three seniors who went from good to great. Sure, it remains to be seen if they’ll hold onto their lofty new ratings. But nothing can take away what these three have accomplished.
