Dear USATT Members,

I am pleased to report that the 1998 U. S. Open/ITTF Pro Tour has been successfully completed. Many of the participants reported that they had a good time. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in all phases of the tournament. For the first time, we had divided the U.S. Open into two separate parts: the ITTF Pro Tour with only four events: Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles, Women’s Singles and Women’s Doubles. All other events went under the U.S. Open. I want to acknowledge the exceptional performance of the ITTF Pro Tour Director, Dr. Azmy Ibrahim, and U. S. Open Director, Shonie Aki, during the entire tournament.

In order to be sure that we are performing well and continue to improve for all future tournaments, the Tournament Committee appointed Jimmy McClure as Tournament Evaluation Director. We are confident that with his long and broad experience, he will be able to point out all the areas that are performing well and areas needing improvement. During the tournament, he was also watching out for any potential trouble areas. The Tournament Committee has already started to look into some of these areas for improvement. We want to continue to do our best and provide the best tournaments for our members.

Again, I want to thank everyone who came to support this event and hope even more can join us next time. We want to have a good time together.
