SUBMITTING ARTICLES, PHOTOS, CARTOONS, ATWORK, ETC FOR USATT MAGAZINE

Editorial Deadlines

Submissions should be submitted to editors Steve Hopkins and Marie Hopkins via email to magazine@usatt.org or mailed to USATT Magazine, 11 S. Angell St., Suite 246, Providence, RI 02860.

Submissions

Articles sought include ones on coaching, player profiles, major tournaments, and general USA and International table tennis news. The emphasis of the magazine is Table Tennis in the U.S., but international coverage is also sought. If you aren't sure about an article, feel free to query the editor. In general, only about 40-50% of what is received can be printed. Submissions may be edited for content or grammar and may be used in whole or in part. Submissions may be held for use in future Issues.

In general, shorter articles are more likely to be printed. Similarly, articles with interesting photos or with a great story line are more likely to be included. Larger graphics, up to 10MB, can be emailed. Please note the author or any article, the photographer for any submitted photo, and the name and contact information for the subject of any photo or article.

We endeavor to include articles for all levels and coverage of all tournaments.

Results

We endeavor to include the results of all tournaments. We greatly prefer that all results be emailed to magazine@usatt.org (Results that are forwarded via fax or mail require retyping). Ideally, all results will be in the same format (see below). Generally, game scores will not be included and only first and second place should be included for most events.

As space permits, we are sometimes able to include a few paragraphs about the tournament or a photo along with the results. Larger write-ups are reserved for larger tournaments -- the number of larger tournament write-ups varies greatly with each Issue and depends upon many factors.

EDITORIAL GUIDELINES FOR USATT MAGAZINE

The following guidelines may be changed by the USATT Editorial Board, subject to approval by either the Editor or the Board of Directors.

PURPOSE

USATT Magazine is the voice for USA Table Tennis and it should contain articles that are interesting, informative and entertaining. Emphasis shall be strongly on the positive, as USATT Magazine is a promotional tool for USATT. What members and sponsors see in USATT Magazine will strongly affect their attitude toward USATT, and so a high-quality, professional magazine is top priority.

EDITORIAL BOARD

The USATT President shall appoint the chairperson of the Editorial Board, who shall appoint the other members of this board.  The editor shall be consulted in all appointments to the editorial board, which shall consist of either three or five members.  The USATT Executive Director shall be a non-voting member of the committee, receiving all materials but acting only in an advisory capacity.

All members of the Editorial Board must have an email address and have access to a fax machine.

The duties of the Editorial Board ("the Board") shall be as follows:

  1. Review all articles under consideration for USATT Magazine publication in advance.

  2. Inform the Editor if they judge an article offensive and not suitable for publication. They will do so within five days upon receiving the article, and sooner if requested by the Editor.

  3. The Board will have the final say on whether an article is offensive and not suitable for publication. The Editor will look to the Editorial Board for general direction and assistance in the choosing of articles and the general planning of USATT Magazine.

  4. Give general suggestions and constructive criticism on improving USATT Magazine.

  5. Assist with the final editing and proofing of USATT Magazine.

  6. Give proper consideration to time, space and budget constraints when making requests of the Editor.

EDITORIAL POLICY CONCERNING OFFENSIVE ARTICLES

Articles that could be perceived as offensive will not be published in USATT Magazine. Any article that could be perceived as such will need prior approval from the USATT Editorial Board for publication. All articles published in USATT Magazine will be sent to the Editorial Board for review before publication. They will be given at least five days, and preferably more, to report back.  If 2/3 of Editorial Board notify the Editor by email, fax or in writing that an article is offensive, then that article will not be published. Minor last-minute changes may be necessary in some cases, but any major changes or changes that could be considered controversial must be approved by the Board.

USATT Magazine is not the place for negative public airings, although it can be a forum for legitimate public debate. It will be up to the Editorial Board to decide under which category an article fits.

USATT Magazine is, and should be considered, a marketing tool for the USATT, and any reasonable request from USATT Executive Director or President will be followed. Special requests or instructions for an issue should be given as far in advance as possible.
