2001 USA National Team Trials

DATE: February 7-11, 2001

LOCATION: Balboa Park, San Diego, California

SEEDINGS: Six men and six women will be seeded into the main draw, based on ratings as of January 16, 2001. A qualifying tournament for each gender will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2001. The qualifying tournaments will consist of either a round robin or double elimination depending upon the number of entrants. The top six finishers in each qualifying tournament will be placed in the main draw. Matches in the qualifying tournaments shall be 2/3.

FORMAT: Men and women in the main draw will each play 12-person round robins, beginning Thursday morning. All matches will be 3/5. Any competitor defaulting a match, with the exception of as a result of injury and with the permission of the tournament referee, will be presumed to be disqualified from the tournament, pending appeal to the Elite Athlete and Athlete Development Committee. In the event of a default, no matches with the player who has defaulted, either played or not played, will be counted toward the final standings.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To compete as a junior, the player must be under 18 as of February 11, 2001. All competitors must be eligible to represent the United States in international competition as of February 1, 2001. Any competitor with doubts as to eligibility status should contact Margaret Smith as soon as possible at (719) 578-4583.

RATINGS USED: Ratings for seeding all draws will be as of January 16, 2001. Competitors wishing to participate in the qualifying tournament may meet the ratings requirement with any rating between December 1, 2000 and January 16, 2001.

ENTRY FEE: $50.00 US, refunded to those qualifying for the main draw.

ENTRY DEADLINE: ALL ENTRIES MUST BE POSTMARKED BY JANUARY 20, 2001 AND BE ACCOMPANIED BY A CHECK FOR $50.00 MADE OUT TO USATT.

CLOSING CEREMONY: Sunday, February 11, at 2:00 p.m. All players in the main draw are required to attend. DO NOT RESERVE A FLIGHT OUT OF SAN DIEGO THAT DEPARTS BEFORE 3:30 P.M.

EQUIPMENT: Butterfly tables, White Nittaku balls, suspended wooden floor

HOUSING: Competitors and officials may stay at the Olympic Training Center at no cost. Meals will also be provided at the OTC at no cost. Competitors may make separate arrangements on their own, upon notification of Dennis Taylor at either (703) 237-3313 or picctpt@aol.com.

TRANSPORTATION: Transportation between the airport and the OTC, as well as between the OTC and Balboa Park, will be provided at no cost. Please email your travel itinerary to Dennis Taylor at picctpt@aol.com in order to receive transportation to and from the airport.

TEAM SELECTION: The top five men and top five women at the Trials will be named to the 2001 National Team.
