Bob Fox Unanimously Appointed to Vacant Vice President Spot on USATT Board

April 25, 2003 -  By a vote of 12-0, the USATT Board of Directors approved Bob Fox to take the vacant Vice President spot on the USATT Board of Directors. The motion was made by President Sheri Pittman, and seconded by Player Rep. Todd Sweeris.

Fox  has a long history in table tennis, and spent much of the past ten years as the USATT's National Team Leader at major competitions such as the Worlds and Olympics. He also chaired the USATT Elite Committee from 1995 to 2000. He is also a long-time player.  In private life he is a lawyer and college professor.

Fox takes over the spot made vacant due to a complicated rules situation. Historically, positions on the Board such as Executive Vice President have been elected by direct vote of the membership. In the late 1990s, the rules were changed so that the Board selected the Executive Vice President (as well as President, Treasurer and Secretary) from among its elected Vice Presidents. The Board decided to return the direct vote to the membership. Dr. Wang had been elected as a Vice President in 2001, and then elected by the Board as Executive Vice President. Due to a quirk in the transformation from closed to open elections, the Executive Vice President position was up for open election again in 2002, and to maintain his position, Dr. Wang had to run for the Executive Vice President position. He did so, and as a result, his previous position as Vice President became vacant.
