The U.S. Olympic Committee chose its July Athletes of the Year. Coming in third for Male Athlete of the Month was Tahl Leibovitz of Queens, NY. Leibovitz dominated play at the Para Pan Am Championships by winning Class 9 singles without dropping a game. He also won Class 10 teams with Mitchell Seidenfeld and then beat his partner, 3-0, in the final of the open event. His sweep marked the second time he took three gold medals in three events at the Para Pan Am Championships. Leibovitz was named 2005’s most outstanding standing disabled player of the Americas and qualified for the World Championships for the Disabled in September 2006 in Montroux, Switzerland.
Coming in first and second were cyclists Lance Armstrong and swimmer Aaron Peirsol. See complete article.
