Coach of the Year Nominations
We are posting the nominations forms for the categories described by the U.S. Olympic Committee for Coach of the Year! We ask that you complete your nominations for any or all categories that you choose and return them to my attention by the close of business on January 11, 2008 – that is to Michael D. Cavanaugh, Interim Executive Director USATT: ed@usatt.org
Volunteer Coach – This is a coach who does not receive payment in any form for his/her involvement at any level. The nominee should be actively coaching youth athletes. Weighted criteria at the 90% level includes: unpaid, active coach, develops athletes, love of Table Tennis and introduces youth to the sport, passion for coaching and sport-community service – 10% of the weighted criteria is directed to the performance of athletes!
Developmental Coach - Can receive payment for their services, coaches an athlete of a Youth Club, High or Junior High School level or a coach directly responsible for coaching athletes to the National or Junior National level. Weighted criteria at the 80% level: Performance of athlete at Junior Championships, Junior Worlds, Pan Ams or other World Games, coached potential future medalists or athletes who have developed into Olympic athletes, has a history of developing athletes and has applied methods and/or contributions to developing athletes – 20% of the weighted criteria: educates coaches and athletes, serves as a mentor, hosts camps and events.
National Coach - This is a coach of an elite level club, Collegiate, Pan-Am, World Championship or Olympic Games coach or a coach of an elite athlete who competes at the highest level of Table Tennis. Weighted criteria at the 90% level includes: produced a World or Olympic Medalist, dominance with a win, odds of winning, extraordinary measure of the win – 10% of the weighted criteria as a tie-breaker is the character of the coach, ethics of the coach, attitude of the athletes served.
“Doc” Counsilman Science Award - This is a coach that utilizes science, medicine and/or technology as an integral part of his/her coaching methods or has created innovative ways to integrate sport science into coaching.
