Strategic Planning Session
FROM: Michael D. Cavanaugh, CEO – USA Table Tennis
SUBJECT: Strategic Planning Session
I am pleased to confirm with you that the previously announced Strategic Planning Meeting will take place at the U.S. Olympic Training Center on September 25th and 26th. We have secured the services of a highly experienced independent facilitator, Maureen Craig, to guide us through this process.
We circulated an open ended simple survey to our Advisory Committee Members, our listed club representatives, the Board and we posted the survey on the website for the entire membership to also be involved. Maureen Craig reported to me that the responses have been “robust” so thanks to you who took the time to offer your insight and vision.
I had the task of assembling a group of individuals who will physically take part in the meeting. I did my very best to secure individuals from a wide range of backgrounds in USA Table Tennis. We will have Chairman Peter Scudner, Board Members Mike Babuin, David Del Vecchio, Dr. Harold Jeffcoat, Jim Kahler, Linda Leaf, Christian Lillieroos and Han Xiao. Joining the Board will be Ross Brown (Chair – High Performance Committee), Richard McAfee (Chair of the Coaching Committee), Larry Thoman (Chair of the Tournaments Committee), Dennis Davis (Chair of the Juniors Committee), along with Whitney Ping, USATT Athlete Rep to the USOC Athlete Advisory Committee, Sean O’Neill (Olympian, Paralympic Coach, Hall of Fame Board Member)), Carl Danner (Foundation Rep), Larry Hodges (Hall of Fame member, coach and writer), Rajul Sheth (2008 USOC Development Coach of the Year), Richard Lee (NATT), Judy Hoarfrost (Paddle Palace), Nicole Herranen (Li-Ning), Dave Fetherman (Escalde), Bowie Martin (Martin/Kilpatrick) along with staff members Doru, Deborah Gray and myself.
Let me assure you that whatever conclusions, resolutions, directions and initiatives that result for the Strategic Planning Meeting will be shared with you as soon as they can be formatted and posted on the website. I am personally very excited about this process because now that we are exiting the governance reformation process, the Board and staff can now address many big picture items in an effort to make USATT more responsive to the needs of the membership and to the growth and prosperity of our sport.
Sincerely, mc
