Nominees for ITTF Committees
March 15, 2007
Motioner: Sheri Pittman Seconder: George Braithwaite
Motion: Move to nominate the following individuals to ITTF Committees:
1) Tim Boggan/Media Committee -- Tim is already a full committee member;
2) Azmy Ibrahim/Rules Committee or URC -- Azmy is already a full committee member of the Rules Committee;
3) Tyra Parkins/Sports Science Committee (she has already been assisting this ITTF committee for several years; there's additional information about her contained below);
4) Linda Hsing/Technical Committee (she has been recommended by USATT's Official's Committee to be nominated to the ITTF's Technical Committee).
Additional information about Tyra Parkins:
Tyra has been involved with table tennis and the medical field for 36+ years. Since 1985, she has assisted in the drug testing of athletes in practically every Olympic sport, both at national and international events. In the sport of table tennis, she has assisted at National Championships, Olympic Festivals and World Championships. Dr. Michael Scott, who formerly sat on this committee until an internal ITTF error accidentally led to his name not being considered at the last round of committee appointments, has since received another title related to the committee and fully supports this nomination.
Statement from Linda Hsing:
I am interested in serving on an ITTF committee, on the Technical committee, or the Umpires and Referees committee.
As an international umpire and USATT national referee, I have been very active in table tennis for a long time. I was the first female referee for the US national championship in 2005, the only female national referee in USATT, and the first woman who passed the advanced umpire exam in the US . Table tennis has been a love of my life since I was young; and I am so glad to be able to promote it. With support from my husband, I could take early retirement from a successful career as a mechanical engineer working at Boeing/Hughes/Rockwell. I enjoyed working on lots of well-known defense and space projects, learning the leading technology and modern management skills. I got many rewards and a US patent. I use some of this knowledge in serving the TT world.
In the last 5 years I have used my own resources to maintain a web site, Lapingpong.com. It gives major local and US tournament information, and updated tournament photos. It has a local club and coach list. Many players and coaches benefit from it. I used my own resources to produce a DVD to train umpires according to the updated ITTF field of play procedure. I made a modern table tennis term translation list between Chinese and English; I hope it will help the communication between the Chinese and western table tennis world.
As an USATT certified state coach, I teach kids at a local school as a volunteer. My goal is to use my knowledge and skills to serve our members and promote table tennis, especially in the US . As a European IU said, “If table tennis can be popular in the world’s super-power, USA , it will be popular in the world.”

In Favor: Sheri P, Tim B, Lily Y, Khoa N, Whitney P, Joseph W, Ed H, George B, Dell S, Jiing W.
Against: Barney R
Barney R: Statement- I am compelled to vote "NO" on this motion due to the lack of focus and commitment by the USATT for the development of our USATT/USOC athletes. Until such a time as USATT adopts a "Athletes First Principle" which would prioritize funding for all members of the Men's and Women's National Teams over and above USATT funds that are directed or used to support additional USATT representation/attendance at the World Championships and other such events I will be voting NO
Abstain: Ashu J.
No Vote: Robert B,
