My name is steven hanlon (velure@tb-303.org) and these are my FAX thoughts... FAX is subtle. FAX is the suggestion, not the act. FAX is an unanswered question. FAX is the reason we exist.
i first found FAX thru Dan Nigrin/GLITCH in baltimore, md. i tend to be drawn to the sub-label offerings that have a faint echo of the mid 90's hard techno/hard trance scene. the mixture of ambient and trance only seems natural.
although i may not be ready for many of the FAX releases, i find myself buying certain ones thinking i will one day listen and have it make perfect sense. some titles i can not listen to yet, others have been happy accidents discovered in my collection.
many of the FAX releases i have coincide with moments of development in my life. the greatest being the transistion from child to adult. gone is the era of RAVE and over-indulgence. each release seems to accentuate the events of my life.
i may falsely believe that the FAX listener has rejected, or at best, ignored the commerical music world of recycled sounds and ideas, and has found a home in the ever changing experimentation that electronic based music provides. i want to believe that the FAX listener is something greater than the trend follower; somehow more intellectually satisfied by challenging themselves with music that is not easy, or always comfortable to listen to.
FAX represents the best of both the artist and the listenerMy webpage is at located www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Venue/5456
