My name is Kevin Renick (scandiluvr@yahoo.com) and these are my FAX thoughts... Fax music is a vast, sparkling world of diverse sound. The best of the label is true ambient magic, affording the opportunity for a listener to take their own private aural journey to a wide variety of destinations. I'm constantly amazed by how certain releases can affect you differently each time, depending on where you are listening to them...i.e., what the context is. My first Fax disc was Ambiant Otaku, and I began reading everything I could about the label and its many releases after hearing that gem. But the real turning point was Air 2. That's one of my very favorite ambient recordings. I had an experience with it driving in Colorado at nightfall, that I will never forget. The music provided an eerie, richly cinematic soundtrack as I got lost in the mountains that evening, experiencing a combination of fear and exhilaration. On a different trip to Colorado, I had an amazing time listening to Silence 5 early in the morning, the day after a major snowstorm when the roads were cleared. There are so many, many great Fax releases. I have just over a hundred titles now. Some of my other personal faves are The Fires of Ork (both volumes), 62 Eulengasse, Wired, Outland 2 and Shades of Orion 2. But depending on the circumstance, countless Fax discs could be the perfect accompaniment to what is going on. Magical, evocative, stirring, soothing, "transportable," compelling...these and so many other adjectives apply to Fax music.
