Q: Does a serve have to go from the servers side of the court to the opposite side on the opponents side of the court?-submitted by "Hundreds of Basement Players"
A: In a single's competition, when all other requirements for a good serve are met, the server can start from any position behind the end line of his/her court, and the ball can land anywhere on the opponent's court. In a double's competition, the ball on the serving team's side must first touch the right side of the playing area, and must land on the right side of the receiving team's playing area. Server's strokes resulting in the ball's landing on any part of the dividing line on either side of the playing area are considered good.
