USA Table Tennis introduces the
SENIOR MASTERS TABLE TENNIS PROGRAM
“Playing for Life”

USA Table Tennis’s First Sanctioned
Recreational Non-Rated Program

USA Table Tennis (USATT) has joined with the National Senior Games Association (NSGA) in a partnership agreement. The NSGA, with over 90 thousand members, is a council member of the USOC and has been designated by USOC as the organization to coordinate senior activities directed for adults 50 and over through education, fitness and sport. For the directory of  state and regional senior games, and the National Senior Games in June, 2007, visit www.nsga.com

Recently, the NSGA asked USATT to sanction the senior table tennis event of The National Senior Games. As with all the sports in the National Senior Games, the table tennis events are recreational in structure without a rating component.

Although USATT did not have a non-rated sanction at the time, USATT rose to the challenge and created a new official, recreational tournament sanction and a new recreational program called, The Senior Masters Table Tennis Program.

The Senior Masters Table Tennis program is USATT’s first non-rated recreational, sanctioned program for adults over 50, who wish to play without consideration of ratings. Starting in July, 2007, within the rated USA Open, a recreational, non-rated Senior Masters Table Tennis’ event will held in conjunction with the US Opens and in December, 2007 with the US National Championships. USATT membership will not be required for entry in the Master Senior events. Medals will be awarded, but ratings will not be given.

USATT is already sanctioning under its recreational component, USATT recreational tournaments and National Senior Games Association (NSGA) state and regional events. Within these events, table tennis is played by seniors not for ratings but for medals.  More detailed information regarding USATT recreational senior tournament sanction requirements and US Opens/National masters events can be found by accessing the USATT website link,( Tournaments, Events, Senior Masters Program)

The USATT Association is excited about the formation and inclusion of the Senior Masters Program in the USATT organization. The Senior Masters Program is just the beginning of the goal USATT has to develop a full age range of non-rated recreational programs. With a new recreational component, USATT looks forward to bringing many more participants from the 14 million table tennis players in the United States into USATT events.
