TIP OF THE WEEK
Sidespin Chops
By Dr. Ping Pong
You can stroke a chop, or push, with two kinds of sidespin (right-to-left, or left-to-right), or straight up with only underspin. Try out these spins in your next practice session. Exaggerate the sidespins to get a feel for the stroke, and how they affect the flight of the ball. There are many game situations where a particular sidespin is helpful on a chop or a push. Other times, just varying the sidepin creates a complication for your opponent -- which is a good thing for you. Become aware of these possibilities, and you will add another small weapon to your arsenal.
