Altshuler Leads U.S. to First Title at ITTF Para Challenger Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. — Sam Altshuler claimed the men’s singles Class 6 title at ITTF Para Challenger Spokane after upsetting world No. 3 Simion Bobi 3-1 (12-10, 4-11, 13-11, 12-10) in the championship final.
“It was a tough match in final, and it was great to get it done,” Altshuler said after the win.
With his first Challenger gold medal, Altshuler earned a 300-point boost toward his international para world rankings.
“If you told me two years ago, I never would have thought I would be at this level. I want to thank everyone supporting me and to thank my mom and dad for helping me throughout my whole journey in table tennis,” Altshuler said.
The jump in points moves Altshuler just outside the top five and into the No. 6 spot heading into ITTF Para Elite Spokane, which begins Aug. 11.
Following ITTF Para Elite Spokane, Altshuler will travel to Yvelines, France, in September for his next ITTF World Para Circuit event before competing at the ITTF Para World Championships in Pattaya, Thailand, from Nov. 13–19.
