Five Major National Titles on the Line for U.S. Nationals Finals Day

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Doubles matchups are set for Finals Day at the U.S. National Table Tennis Championships.

The men’s, women’s and mixed doubles championships will be decided today at San Jose McEnery Convention Center.

2024 U.S. men’s doubles champions Nandan Naresh and Daniel Tran ended Kanak Jha’s return to men’s doubles alongside Bosman Botha 3-1.

“I guess we just take it point by point in the final against Ved and Alex. It's going to be tricky,” said Naresh.

Tran and Naresh will next clash with the Bay Area natives Ved Sheth and Alex Luo in the men’s doubles final. Sheth and Luo dispatched last year’s champions, Nikhil Kumar and Sid Naresh 3-1, ending their attempt at a finals rematch.

“We were the underdogs going into this [semifinal] match, but I think both of us have good chemistry,” said Sheth. “We've been playing with each other for a few years, so we know how to work together.”

Sheth and Luo are embracing the underdog role once again in the final.

“I think it's also easier to be the underdog because there's not as much pressure on us to win. There's more pressure on them. But obviously we know that we won't get away with playing safe,” added Sheth.

The women's doubles championship will feature a fresh matchup. Hildy Chen and Lillian Ma enter the final after downing Tiffany Ke and Angie Tan 3-2 in their semifinal match. Chen and Ma rallied from two games down before winning the deciding game, which featured four lead changes.

“I'm very excited that I got into the finals. I hoped that we’d get into top three, but we've already exceeded my expectations,” said Ma.

Back in the United States after studying and training overseas, Chen, who attends New Taipei Municipal HaiShan High School in Chinese Taipei, and Ma, who trains at the Nanjing Sport Institute in China, have made immediate impacts at the U.S. Nationals.

Tournament favorites Jishan Liang and Sally Moyland advanced to the final with a win over Mendy Wang and Peter Scheuer in straight games.

Having occasionally paired in international competition, Liang and Moyland enter the final fresh off a quarterfinal run at the 2026 U.S. Smash in Ontario and are poised as clear favorites to claim the mixed doubles title.

Their opponents will be Daniel Tran and Jessica Reyes-Lai for the championship.

Following Day 5 doubles action, the men's and women's singles quarterfinals set Wednesday's semifinal matchups.

Kanak Jha is in the hunt for his seventh men’s singles title at 26. Jha will face Jishan Liang in the semis. On the opposite side of the bracket, Nikhil Kumar will face Sean Zhang.

In the women’s draw Sally Moyland is looking to repeat as champion. She’ll need to advance past Mendy Wang for another shot at the title. Two-time U.S. national champion Amy Wang and Tiffany Ke go head-to-head in the other women’s semifinal matchup.

Along with the five major championship events, champions were crowned throughout the week of competition.

Among the standouts was U.S. Para National Team member Zach Pickett, who secured gold in the men's seated class 3–5 championship.

He now returns to training at the U.S. High Performance Center ahead of ITTF Para Elite Spokane in August.

Table Tennis America took over in the U15 singles championships. Chirag Pradhan took first place in the boys’ event and Irene Yeoh won in the girls’ category.

The two U.S. Junior National Team members remain the nation's top-ranked U15 players heading into the fall. They’ll be first in line to play in the upcoming ITTF Junior Pan American Championships.
