Americans ready to Begin 2026 WTT U.S. Smash as Qualifying Gets Underway

The wait is over. The 2026 WTT U.S. Smash begins today at the Ontario Convention Center in Southern California, where 18 Americans will compete against the world's best table tennis players.

One of only four WTT Smash events on the international calendar, the WTT U.S. Smash represents the highest tier of competition outside the Olympic Games and World Championships.

With 2,000 ITTF World Ranking points awarded to the singles champions, the tournament has attracted one of the strongest fields ever assembled in the United States, including world No. 1 Wang Chuqin, world No. 2 Tomokazu Harimoto, reigning world champion Sun Yingsha, Olympic medalist Hugo Calderano, and Japanese standouts Hina Hayata and Miwa Harimoto.

Qualifying begins Friday, June 26, before the main draw starts Sunday, June 28. Players advancing through qualifying will earn a place in the main draw alongside the tournament's seeded players.

Nine Americans have secured direct entry into Sunday's main draw.

Kanak Jha leads the U.S. men's singles field as the tournament's as world No. 25. Jishan Liang, Nandan Naresh and Daniel Tran also earned main draw spots as wild cards.

On the women's side, Amy Wang and Lily Zhang qualified directly through their world rankings, while Sally Moyland, Jessica Reyes Lai and Irene Yeoh received wild-card entries into the main draw.

Joining Friday's qualification draw are Nikhil Kumar, Alex Luo and Sid Naresh in the men's singles, while Satya Aspathi, Hildy Chen, Tashiya Piyadasa, Ke Wang and Mandy Yu round out the American women's qualifying lineup.

The tournament will feature few new doubles partnerships for the doubles pairings. Men's doubles include Kanak Jha with Fei Xue (CHN), Nandan Naresh alongside Sid Naresh, and Jishan Liang with Bosman Botha.

In women's doubles, Sally Moyland teams with Lily Zhang, while Jessica Reyes Lai partners Amy Wang.

The U.S. mixed doubles entries feature Bosman Botha and Qin Yuxuan (CHN), Jishan Liang and Sally Moyland, and Nandan Naresh with Jessica Reyes Lai.
