Liang and Moyland to Face Calderano and Takahashi in U.S. Smash Quarterfinals

Jishan Liang and Sally Moyland advanced to the mixed doubles quarterfinals by upsetting No. 5 seeds Manush Shah and Diya Shitale of India, securing the first top-eight finish by a U.S. pair at the 2026 U.S. Smash.

“I'm just really happy my parents are here to see me play live,” Moyland said following the victory. “It's really awesome to hear the applause from the audience for us, and for the fans to congratulate us on the way out.”

The second edition of the U.S. Smash has drawn larger crowds, providing true home-court advantage for the American players throughout the tournament. The atmosphere has given the Americans an added lift throughout the event.

After dropping a tightly contested opening game, Liang and Moyland adjusted quickly and took control of the serve-and-receive battle. They closed out the final three games to complete the 3-1 (9-11, 11-6, 11-4, 11-8) upset over the fifth seeds.

Next up, Liang and Moyland face Brazil's Hugo Calderano and Bruna Takahashi in the mixed doubles quarterfinals. Calderano, currently ranked among the world's top men's players, and Takahashi form one of the tournament's strongest remaining pairings. The match is scheduled for tomorrow at 5:55 p.m. ET / 2:55 p.m. PT on Table 2.
