COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The USATT Northeast Regional Championships begin this week at Westchester Table Tennis Center in Pleasantville, New York. The two-day tournament is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. ET on Saturday, May 16, 2026.

More than 20 events make up this year’s regional schedule. Youth singles and ratings events will open things up over the weekend, ahead of Sunday’s featured men’s and women’s singles championships.

“Players know that they can come to our tournament and be welcome and accepted,” said Westchester club founder Will Shortz.

With over 150 registered participants and counting, the singles championship titles are up for grabs. Although there’s still ample time to register for the event, the reigning singles champions, Kai Zhang and Idalys Lovet are not presently among the field.

The men’s singles favorites are Aryan Jha of Westford Table Tennis Club and Ryan Lin of Maryland Table Tennis Center. The two are followed closely by Lucas Wu of Boston Table Tennis and several players from Lily Yip Table Tennis Center.

Leading the women’s singles field is Mendy Wang, currently ranked No. 7 nationally among U.S. women. Emma Yang of Matchpoint Table Tennis Center NJ and Evelyn Ma of Topspin NJ are among the top local contenders in women’s singles. Yang also tops the listed player ratings for U13, U15 and U17 entering her first regional in 2026.

“My feeling is that the level of competition keeps rising in the United States. By having this number of high-rated players competing against each other, it encourages those who are in the middle range, gives them something to aspire to,” said Shortz.

Championship titles and over $6,000 in total prize money await competitors at Westchester this week.

U.S. National Team ranking points are also at stake for adults and juniors. The Northeast is one of two remaining USATT Regional Championships for players to solidify their ranking points. The Midwest Regionals return in June of 2026.

Regional Championships offer some of the most valuable domestic ranking-point opportunities outside the U.S. Nationals and U.S. Open. That alone raises the level of competition and increases the importance of every match across all five regions.

With an open field and national ranking implications carrying added weight, the Northeast Regional Championships could produce one of the most competitive weekends on the USATT calendar.
