The U.S. secured four medals in Spokane, Washington, to capitalize on the first World Para Future event held in their home country.

Leading for the Americans, Jenson Van Emburgh claimed a silver medal in the seated men’s singles Class 3 final against world no. 3 Florian Merrien (FRA). It was a tight match finishing at 3-2 and a true testament to the higher level of competition playing in the Para Future before the Para Elite beginning on Aug. 9.

Most recently, coming off a men’s singles Class 3 gold at World Para Elite Lasko 2025 in Slovenia, Van Emburgh is looking to extend his hot streak here at the main event in Spokane. He and teammate Zachary Pickett also claimed bronze in seated men’s doubles Class 8. The duo, who also struck gold together in Slovenia, will attempt to repeat that success at the upcoming competition.

Michael Godfrey added to the U.S. medal count, earning a bronze in seated men’s singles Class 1, while Logan Watson and Tahl Leibovitz took bronze in standing men’s singles doubles Class 18.

Since the three-day event preceded an ITTF World Para Elite event, the Para Future had a massive number of participants, and the competition was fierce in comparison to an individual Para Future.

There were over 150 para-athletes in the event, and it was absolutely loaded with all-world talent. Paralympic-caliber players such as Will Devos (BEL) and Sophia Keller (BRA) were scattered through every para class.

Still, the U.S. played very well at the ITTF World Para Future Spokane 2025. The American athletes held their own in the group stages and main draws, delivering performances to be proud of. With the Elite event still ahead, the U.S. has another opportunity to showcase their skill and resilience on home turf.
