USA Table Tennis Lifts Requirement to Submit COVID-19 Related Documents for Tournament Sanction and League Approval
Tournaments and League Play Scheduled After July 1, 2021, No Longer Required
to Submit Declaration of Compliance or Operational Safety Plan for Tournament Sanction or League Approval
(Colorado Springs, CO – June 2, 2021) – USA Table Tennis (“USATT”), the National Governing Body for the sport of table tennis, today announced that the organization will no longer require that Tournament and League Directors submit a Declaration of Compliance with Local, State and Federal Governmental and Public Health Restrictions or a Tournament or League Operational Safety Plan in order to initiate the sanctioning process for table tennis tournaments and/or the approval of league play scheduled after July 1, 2021.
“USATT believes the current situation in the United States has evolved to allow us to relax the COVID-19 related requirements within the tournament sanctioning and league approval processes,” said USATT Chief Executive Officer Virginia Sung. “In saying this, however, it is important to note that Tournament and League Directors are, of course, still required to follow the laws, rules and regulations of their local jurisdictions when hosting an indoor gathering of persons such as a table tennis tournament or league. Furthermore, we would expect our TDs/LDs to continue to do all within their power to create a safe and healthy environment for persons participating in their tournaments and leagues. However, USATT now believes that the organization can return to our standard tournament sanctioning and league approval processes, which means the organization will no longer require that TDs/LDs submit the Declaration of Compliance or a formal Operational Safety Plan for tournaments and league play scheduled after July 1.”
In a related matter, yesterday, USATT released the organization’s new Tournament Sanctioning Web App created by Sportfist.com that has been designed to facilitate and expedite the tournament sanctioning process. Current Tournament Directors and persons interested in hosting a USATT sanctioned tournament are encouraged to review yesterday’s press release and watch USATT Pongcast Episode Six, which discusses this new web-based app in greater detail.
