LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The bright lights of Las Vegas once again shone on the U.S. Open Table Tennis Championships, returning for a second consecutive year at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The prestigious event began Tuesday, December 16, and goes through Sunday, December 21, 2025, featuring nearly 1,300 competitors from around the globe, all vying for championship gold in six days of nonstop competition.

From seasoned veterans to rising stars, the early rounds have already set the tone for a week defined by intensity and championship ambition.

Opening day was dominated by round-robin play as the larger events began their tournament journeys. Early action included the U2600 Ratings Event, which started with 134 players and was quickly narrowed down to just four semifinalists. Top seeds Carlos Hernandez and Alex Cazacu sit on opposite sides of the bracket and appear on a potential collision course toward the finals. Nicolas Callaba and Tianrui Zhang complete the final four still in contention. The U2600 finals are scheduled for the afternoon of Day 2 at 1:00 PM Pacific and will be broadcast live on Table 1.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championships were in full swing throughout the first day. From the outset, the field was stacked with elite pairings, and the strongest teams have advanced to the quarterfinals as the tournament’s first major titles draw closer.

Mixed Doubles Quarterfinal Matchups

  • (1) Jishan Liang / Chengzhu Zhu vs. (8) Edward Ly / Mo Zhang
  • (2) Nikhil Kumar / Sally Moyland vs. (6) Koyo Kanamitsu / Angie Tan
  • (3) Mohamed Shouman / Chen Sun vs. (9) Yan Guo / Wei-Hsun Tseng
  • (4) Nandan Naresh / Jessica Reyes-Lai vs. (7) Yiran Wu / Eunjung Ban

The quarterfinals showcase many of the strongest doubles players currently competing in the United States. Notably, 2024 U.S. Open Women’s Singles Champion Yan Guo teams up with Wei-Hsun Tseng, while Canadian standouts and Pan American regulars Edward Ly and Mo Zhang add even more excitement to an already loaded draw. This year’s Mixed Doubles event is shaping up to be a thrilling sprint to the finals. The quarterfinals start back up at 10:45 a.m., and the semifinals are scheduled in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Pacific on Table 1 and Table 2.

The first champions of the 2025 U.S. Open Table Tennis Championships were crowned on Day 1. Dell Sweeris captured the Men’s 80 & Over Singles title, while Alice Tym claimed gold in the Women’s 80 & Over Singles. Both champions dominated their group play and carried that momentum into commanding finals performances in Las Vegas.

Looking ahead, Day 2 promises a full slate of action. Several new champions are set to be awarded, and the highly anticipated Men’s and Women’s Singles events will be getting underway.
