Nandan Naresh and Daniel Tran captured the 2025 U.S. Open Men’s Doubles Championship with a commanding victory over Jinbao Ma and Koyo Kanamitsu, sweeping the best-of-five final in straight games. From the opening serve, Naresh and Tran stunned their opponents with pace and precision, leaving little doubt as to the outcome.
“The win felt really good,” said Naresh. “We paired up quite well and played really well in the finals together, so we’re really happy, especially since this was our first U.S. Open senior title.”
Although the American duo is not always able to be paired together, they typically find success when they do. The 18-year-old champions have been playing together for nearly a decade, and that long history was evident throughout the match. Naresh and Tran appeared to move and react in near-effortless synchronization.
“Nandan’s serve was great and it was getting us a lot of points,” Tran said. “Off my receives, I was trying to do a lot of banana, and that was working really well.”
It was a modest assessment of a performance defined by dominance, especially against opponents they hold in high regard. In the end, the straight-games sweep was a fitting reflection of Naresh and Tran’s confidence, and years of shared experience during their breakthrough U.S. Open title.
Sun Chen and Chengzhu Zhu claimed gold in the 2025 U.S. Open Women’s Doubles Championship with an emphatic win over Sally Moyland and Jessica Reyes-Lai. The victory capped an extraordinary tournament run in which Chen and Zhu went undefeated from start to finish.
“It was our goal to win this doubles title,” said Chen. “We are very happy. We are really good friends, and we have been training together for many years. We wanted to win a title together.”
Chen, representing China, and Zhu, from Hong Kong, are longtime friends and training partners. Their chemistry was on full display as they dominated extended rallies and controlled the match with deft touch play, turning the final into a largely one-sided affair.
Like their counterparts in the men’s draw, the women’s doubles champions credited their success to the trust they have built over years of playing together.
From the opening point to the final rally, they seemed to know instinctively where their partner would be and how each exchange would unfold.
Ultimately, Chen and Zhu’s commitment to one another have paid off. The women’s championship was a testament to their skill, and a memorable triumph for an enduring friendship that blossomed from their careers.
