COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Men’s doubles partners Nandan and Sid Naresh remain the last Americans standing at Smash 2025 in Las Vegas.
The Naresh brothers face a challenging matchup today in the men’s doubles round of 16, taking on China's No. 5 seeds, Youzheng Huang and Shidong Lin, at 12:30 p.m. PST on Table 4 at Orleans Arena. Lin, the current men's singles world No. 1, benefits from playing alongside the left-handed Huang, giving the pair a dynamic edge at the table.
Entering as host wildcards, Sid and Nandan are coming off a strong 3-1 opening-round victory (11-7, 6-11, 11-6, 11-9) over Mudit Dani (IND) and Olajide Omotayo (NGA). The brothers will look to build on their chemistry and momentum as they aim for a quarterfinal berth.
In other U.S. results, Sally Moyland and Jessica Reyes-Lai were eliminated from the women’s doubles round of 32, falling 3-0 (11-8, 11-7, 11-4) to Cheonhui Joo (KOR) and Miyuu Kihara (JPN). Although they lost, the young American duo showed promise, especially in the early games.
Nandan Naresh and Moyland also exited the tournament in the mixed doubles round of 16, losing 3-0 (11-2, 13-11, 11-8) to Japan’s Sora Matsushima and Miwa Harimoto.
In women’s singles, Jessica Reyes-Lai was defeated by world No. 6 Miwa Harimoto 3-0 (11-5, 11-3, 11-6) in the round of 32. Despite the tough draw, Reyes-Lai showed potential in her ability to put points on the scoreboard in her second-round matchup against a top-tier opponent.
Amy Wang also exited in the second round, falling to Jia Nan Yuan out of France at 3-0 (11-8, 11-3, 11-7), closing out Team USA’s run in singles play on day three of the tournament.
