Top Talent and Intense Junior Battles Define 2025 USATT Northeast Regional Championships at Westchester TTC

Pleasantville, NY – May 11, 2025 – The 2025 USATT Northeast Regional Championships brought together 188 players from 14 states for a weekend of high-level competition at the renowned Westchester Table Tennis Center on May 10–11. As the third event in the 2025 Regional Championship Series, the tournament delivered on every front—elite-level performances, nail-biting junior matchups, and passionate support from coaches, families, and fans.


Six players rated over 2500 headlined a deep field of competitors, underscoring the level of prestige and talent concentrated at the event. For many junior players, the stakes were especially high: performances here count toward qualification for the U.S. Junior National Team, making each match a pivotal moment in their development.

Zhang and Lovet Take Top Singles Titles


In the Men’s Singles, hometown favorite Kai Zhang (2641), representing Westchester TTC, thrilled the local crowd by defeating Yiran Wu (2689) of Origin Table Tennis Academy in a high-intensity five-game final: -8, 9, -6, 5, 7. Zhang’s control under pressure and experience proved decisive in the closely contested showdown.

The Women’s Singles title went to Idalys Lovet (2167), a former Cuban National Champion, who bested Yasiris Ortiz (2240), a former Dominican Republic National Team member. Lovet’s 3-1 victory (6, 7, -8, 9) highlighted her consistency and power in key rallies.

Junior Events: Packed Draws and Emotional Highs


With 10 junior events, the competition was a focus of the weekend. Dozens of players were chasing valuable points for National Team selection and future rankings, increasing the intensity of every match. Tournament Director Robert Roberts noted, “There were lots of upsets and crying. But in the end, the tournament was a success and just about everyone went home happy.”


Among the highlights:

  • Lucas Wu defeated Arnav Jain to win Boys U19.
  • Yudi Jin won Girls U19 and reached two more finals in U17 and U15, showcasing her impressive consistency.
  • Mandy Yu emerged as Girls U17 Champion and Girls U19 finalist.
  • Brothers and siblings battled, friends became rivals, and every match told a story of growth, grit, and passion.

  • Women’s O40Yanhua Wang edged out Chandrama Ramkumar
  • Men’s O60Kurt Douty defeated Neil Cole

The 2025 USATT Northeast Regional Championships brought together players from a diverse range of clubs across the country, reflecting the growing strength and reach of the sport in the United States. Clubs represented included:

With such widespread participation, the Northeast Regionals truly served as a melting pot of talent and training philosophies—uniting players of different ages, backgrounds, and styles under one roof for a celebration of American table tennis.

 

Looking Ahead in the USATT Regional Series


The 2025 USATT Regional Championship Series continues with the Midwest Championships (May 17-18) and Southeast Championships (May 23-25), where players will have their final opportunities to earn points toward national team consideration. With just two events left, the intensity is only expected to grow.


As the dust settles in Pleasantville, one thing is clear: the USATT Northeast Regionals once again delivered a thrilling stage for elite talent, emotional youth battles, and community celebration of the sport.
