Virginia Sung, USATT CEO.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am thrilled to announce that Virginia Sung has entered into an employment agreement with USATT to continue serving as Chief Executive Officer through December 31, 2030.  This agreement ensures the organization will have strong and consistent leadership through and beyond the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

Over the past six years, Virginia has helped elevate the sport of table tennis in the U.S. by bringing the first-ever World Championships to American soil, ending a 62-year medal drought at the event, and securing major sponsors for our premier competitions.  She has also strengthened support for our clubs, elite athletes, tournament organizers, and members which has led to unprecedented growth and increased visibility of the sport.

Virginia has also played a key role in restoring USATT’s financial health and organizational structure.  During her tenure, USATT has nearly tripled its net assets and significantly increased its cash reserves.  And our membership has nearly doubled.  Virginia’s business acumen, leadership, and strategic vision ensure that USATT has the capacity and stability to continue to grow and thrive.

Virginia’s trusted relationships across the global table tennis community have strengthened not only USATT but the international movement as well.  Her role on the ITTF Executive Board gives her a voice in shaping the future of the sport worldwide.  And her seat on the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee Board – on which she represents and advocates for all National Governing Bodies – places Virginia among the leaders guiding the broader Olympic and Paralympic movement in America.  These dual roles allow her to gain valuable insights and further enhance USATT’s credibility and influence.

Finally, aside from her many accomplishments, it is Virginia’s strong character, presence and unwavering commitment to our organization that make her the right person to lead USATT through what promises to be the most exciting and challenging era in our sport.
