USA Table Tennis Opens Registration for
2021 US National Table Tennis Championships
USATT Will Host the Premier Table Tennis Event for Americans Starting on Independence Day –
July 4 through July 9, 2021, At Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada
(Colorado Springs, CO – March 30, 2021) – USA Table Tennis (“USATT”), the National Governing Body for the sport of table tennis today opened the registration process for the 2021 US National Table Tennis Championships, which will be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, from July 4 through July 9.
“We’re excited to be returning to Las Vegas for our country’s premier table tennis tournament,” said USATT Chief Executive Officer, Virginia Sung. “We have been working with the great people at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas for over a year now, and it’s required a great patience on behalf of everyone, as we’ve all had to work through the issues related to the pandemic. We’re very hopeful that table tennis will be able to celebrate America’s return to an active participatory sports calendar with this great table tennis tournament, which quite appropriately kicks off on Independence Day.”
This marks the first time that USATT has partnered with Mandalay Bay to host a premier table tennis event. Mandalay Bay is a hotel, resort and casino located at the southern end of the world famous Las Vegas Strip. Mandalay Bay is known for luxury accommodations and unparalleled entertainment options at prices accessible for all budgets. The resort hotel is directly connected to the Mandalay Convention Center where the tournament will be held.
The US Nationals, which is considered the premier table tennis event for citizens and residents of the United States, will offer forty-eight events, forty of which will bestow the sport’s championship title for American citizens. The eight ratings events at US Nationals are not only open to American citizens, but are also open to all persons who reside in the country.
The tournament events schedule, which is currently posted on the USATT website (https://www.teamusa.org/usa-table-tennis/2021-us-national-table-tennis-championships), will be set up on the website of USATT’s partner, Omnipong (www.omnipong.com), where participants can register for the tournament.
The event schedule 2021 US Nationals has made certain accommodations for the COVID-19 pandemic, including the elimination of doubles events for this year’s tournament. Additionally, all events will be run in a single-elimination format although the schedule also include consolation matches. The start time for events has also been maximized to allow participants to play in as many events as their age and rating will permit.
USATT’s website has additional information regarding playing the schedule, including the rules related to preliminary rounds and seeding in the main draw of the tournaments’ events: https://www.teamusa.org/usa-table-tennis/2021-us-national-table-tennis-championships. The US Nationals Prospectus contains a basic outline of the operational safety requirements for the tournament, although USATT does expect to release a more timely and detailed set of guidelines regarding the protection of the health, safety and welfare of the participants. A link has been established as well for participants seeking to book hotel accommodations at the USATT Group Rate at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
