Patrons Not Actually Playing in Tournament Events Will Be Permitted Entry Inside the Playing Venue During Competition Action

(Colorado Springs, CO – May 19, 2021) – USA Table Tennis (“USATT”), the National Governing Body for the sport of table tennis, today announced an updated policy and protocol with respect to the 2021 US National Table Tennis Championships that are to be held at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, from July 4 through July 9. Under the new policy, patrons not actually playing in the tournament events will now be permitted entry into the playing venue during competition hours. Such spectators will be required to purchase a Day Pass Credential for $10 per day and undergo temperature checks to gain access to the facility.

“In light of the ongoing evolution of federal, state, and local regulations related to the COVID pandemic, we now feel comfortable in allowing non-playing patrons inside the competition venue to watch the 2021 US Nationals,” said USATT Chief Executive Officer Virginia Sung. “Clark County, Nevada, just announced that all business operations may return to pre-pandemic guidelines beginning on June 1 with 100% capacity, so we feel comfortable in this decision to allow participants and non-participants alike to have access to the tournament venue as has been historically permitted at the US Nationals.”

Under the US Nationals tournament policy, minor-aged participants in the tournament will receive one Parental Tournament Credential free of charge. Coaches listed on the USATT Coaching Registry will also receive a Coach’s Tournament Credential free of charge. In this regard, USATT reiterated today that ONLY those coaches listed on the USATT Coaching Registry will be permitted to serve as a coach in the semi-finals and finals for the forty-eight events scheduled to be played at the US Nationals.

All persons participating in and/or attending the 2021 US National Table Tennis Championships should be aware that, at least for the time being, USATT is going to keep in place all COVID-19 Tournament Safety Precautions listed on the tournament prospectus (https://www.teamusa.org/usa-table-tennis/2021-us-national-table-tennis-championships), including the requirement that all persons inside the tournament venue wear masks at all times except for players when they are actually engaged in tournament play. USATT intends to keep up to date on all regulations with respect to large gatherings and will continue to update the organization’s policies for the 2021 US Nationals as it is deemed appropriate and necessary.
