The 2022 Ohio State Qualification tournament dates are set for Friday, February 25 through Sunday, February 27 at Columbus TTC –

Stag Prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers for all Championship Events

The 2022 Ohio U.S. Nationals State Qualification Tournament will be hosted by Columbus Table Tennis Club. The February event marks the beginning of the second year of the US Nationals State Qualification Tournaments.

During the event, Ohio residents that are U.S. Citizens will have the opportunity to qualify for the main draw at the 2022 U.S. Nationals Table Tennis Championships. In addition, CTTC has included rating events where anyone, including players from other states or countries, can also play.

The tournament will take place on Friday, February 25, through Sunday, February 27. Here’s a first look at the 2022 Ohio SQT Entry Form which can also be found on Omnipong. Columbus Table Tennis Club will host the event for a second consecutive year at 653 E 8th Ave, Columbus, OH 43201. Their facility with 13 tables ready for competition is expected to be more than accommodating to house the event after last year’s Ohio success.

In the case you wish to get some practice in before the 2022 Ohio SQT, Columbus TTC is open 5:30 – 11 p.m., Monday through and Friday, and 5 – 11 p.m. on weekends. The Ohio facility currently hosts 4-6 tournaments and features 2-3 Leagues during the year and weekly round robin events. The club has a wide range of table tennis programs for youth, adult, and international players.

Ohio’s capital city is the home of Columbus TTC, putting the club in the central locale of the state. Players will have a centralized proving ground to compete for the status of the top player in the state as they have done for the last 50 plus years.

Club President Jan Lie had this to say about the Ohio SQT, "In addition to qualifying for the US National and getting a good seeding, this tournament is like the Ohio championship to see who's the best at the various age groups. We are making it better and bigger each year. Therefore, we included rating events where anyone, including players from other states or countries, can also play."

"The state of table tennis in Ohio is definitely growing as I see more members and non-members playing in our club, more players playing in tournaments throughout Ohio, and more players learning to play and wanting to be an advanced player to perform at a high level." Lie added about the Ohio player base.

Columbus TTC welcomes all residents of Ohio to participate at the event in featured rating events from U1100 RR up to U2300 RR. In addition to open rating events, Championship Events at the Ohio SQT will abide by the following regulations to qualify for the 2022 U.S. Nationals Table Tennis Champions:

To be a fully eligible participant in a Championship Event at the U.S. Nationals State Qualification Tournament, a player must be a U.S. Citizen and a resident of the state in which the tournament is being held. This year, USATT is allowing non-citizens who are residents of a state to play in the Championship Events of that state. However, such a player could not advance to play in that event at the U.S. Nationals, where U.S. citizenship is mandatory. The top three finishers in each Championship Event in each state (who are U.S. citizens) will be automatically seeded in the Main Draw at the U.S. Nationals for that event – and, just as importantly – those three top finishers get entry into that event at the U.S. Nationals for free.

USA Table Tennis’ National Sponsor Stag will graciously be providing prizes to the winner, runner-up, and third place finisher of each Championship Event at Columbus Table Tennis Club’s 2022 State Qualification Tournament. Prizes will include Stag Hoodies, T-Shirts, Mini Tables, and Playing Sets.

Ohioans, Columbus Table Tennis Club is eager to see the turnout for the 2022 US Nationals Table Tennis Championships State Qualification Tournament. On behalf of Columbus TTC and USATT, we wish you all the best of luck as you add to the cultural history of table tennis in Ohio.
