Amy Wang and Lily Zhang began the women’s doubles event at the Singapore Smash 2023 with an impressive win in their opening match to reach the round of 16. The tournament has welcomed the world’s best table tennis players since the onset, coming into existence in 2022.

In the draws for women’s doubles, the two decorated United States players landed the host country of Singapore in the main draw. The U.S. women finished their opening round best of five with a 3-1 victory over Ser Lin Qian and Zhou Jingyi.

The score count for the four-game match was 12-10, 7-11, 11-7, and 11-5. In game one, down three points, and game three, down two points, Wang and Zhang overcame point deficits showing great composure. By game four, they found their rhythm and ran away with a six-point victory.

Wang and Zhang continued their run against the remaining 16 teams in the Women’s Doubles event and were matched up against Luxemburg. They met Xia Lian Ni and Sarah De Nutte on the court for a chance at the quarterfinals.

The Luxemburg duo were among the world's elite and made a strong showing in Singapore. The European teammates were still very much in sync since their 2021 trip to America when they placed third at the Houston World Table Tennis Championships 2021.

Wang and Zhang battled against Ni and De Nutte, but ultimately the USA fell to Luxemburg in three games in the round of 16.
