Kanak Jha and Nikhil Kumar Seek Olympic Qualification in Lima, Peru

USA Table Tennis athletes Kanak Jha and Nikhil Kumar pursue their Olympic dreams at the ITTF Americas Olympic Qualification Event this week in Lima, Peru. The final Olympic qualification event for Pan Am athletes takes place from May 14-18th at the Villa Deportiva Nacional stadium. Over 5 days of competition, 4 men and 4 women will punch their tickets to Paris 2024. The competition will have 4 knock-out draws, with the winner of each draw earning a spot in the singles event at this summer’s Olympics.
Meet Kanak and Nikhil:
Kanak Jha: Four-time U.S. National Champion (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and two-time Olympian (2016, 2020), Kanak Jha was ranked in the top 20 in the world in 2019. Following his return to competition in March 2024, he secured the top spot at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials and won the 2024 WTT Feeder Dusseldorf competition.
Nikhil Kumar: Two-time and reigning U.S. National Champion, the Tokyo 2020 Olympian is looking to earn a spot on his second Olympic team. He had a career best win over Liam Pitchford (WR#29) at the 2024 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships in Busan, South Korea earlier this year.
